I am very happy to welcome Fr. Anthony McFarland to St. Anne’s as our new associate pastor today. Please plan on joining us for a welcome reception with pancakes and sausage on Sunday, November 2, at 10:30 in the parish hall.
For the sake of those who might have missed the news last week, I want to share again our upcoming plans for moving the tabernacle.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
After discussion with Bishop Toups, I am happy to announce that he has given permission for the tabernacle at St. Anne to be moved to its original position on the back altar in the center of the church. It is my prayer that this move will emphasize the centrality of the Eucharist, as “the source and summit of the Christian life”, with all the lines of sight in the church being drawn to it. Canon 938 of the Code of Canon Law says:
- º1. The Most Holy Eucharist is to be reserved regularly in only one tabernacle of a church or oratory.
- º2. The tabernacle in which the Most Holy Eucharist is reserved should be placed in a part of the church that is prominent, conspicuous, beautifully decorated, and suitable for prayer.
- º3. The tabernacle in which the Eucharist is regularly reserved is to be immovable, made of solid and opaque material, and locked so that the danger of profanation may be entirely avoided.
I believe this is the most prominent and conspicuous location for the tabernacle in our church, and indeed it was the original location. I am grateful for the many people who have requested this move since I arrived at St. Anne in January. I am also grateful to our parish Pastoral Council for endorsing this move.
A fitting date to enthrone our tabernacle will be the Solemnity of Christ the King, on 23 November. Eventually, we will move the statue of St. Anne from the back of the church, to where the tabernacle currently is, with the statue of St. Joseph in the front side entrance on the Calder Street side moving to replace where the St. Anne statue was.
One final note. We certainly have a beautiful tabernacle, but with the passage of time it has become dull. The cost for replating our tabernacle is approximately $11,000. The processional hymn at the organ-led Masses this weekend is a setting of the ancient hymn of praise Te Deum laudamus. This text, probably written in Latin during the late 4th century or the early 5th century, can be described as a prayer of doxology or a prayer praising God for being God. Since it is a prayer, we will sing all four verses. Would you be offended to pray “Our Father, who art in heaven, deliver us from evil” just to save a few seconds for your day?
This prayer is attributed to St. Nicetas of Remesiana (c. 335-414). He was bishop in this ancient Roman city in modern-day Serbia. Looking this far back into history is always difficult as there are legends and conjectures surrounding many famous prayers and texts. We sing this prayer to an early-American melody, NETTLETON, which first appeared in a collection of sacred music published in 1813 by John Wyeth.

We Remember. . .
The liturgy of the Church during the month of November is a celebration of the lives of the saints, both those canonized by the church and those who have been a part of our personal lives. The readings call for us to reflect on death, but they also remind us of the hope and anticipation of the second coming. We are preparing for the advent season to come.
A Book of Remembrance has been placed in the sanctuary of the church for you to enter the names of your loved ones who have died. Please take time before or after Mass to come forward and write in the names. All those entered in the Book of Remembrance will be remembered at all the Masses during the month of November during the Prayer of the Faithful. On All Saints Day, the book will be placed near the Baptismal Font and the Paschal Candle where it will remain throughout November.

Because All Saints Day falls on a Saturday this year,
the obligation to attend Mass is lifted. The faithful are
strongly encouraged to celebrate this day by attending Mass.
At St. Anne Church, we will have one Mass for
All Saints Day on Saturday, November 1, at 8:15 a.m.

All Souls Day Mass of Remembrance
A Mass of Remembrance will be held
Sunday, November 2nd at the 9:30 a.m. Mass.
This Mass of Remembrance is held every year at St. Anne Church to remember those of our parish and loved ones of parishioners who have died in the last 12 months. Each of the names of loved ones who died in the last year is called during a candle lighting ceremony during Mass. Those whose funeral services were celebrated here at St. Anne since November of last year will automatically be on the list. You must contact Kristina Knowles in order to have any other loved ones’ names entered on the list. Family members or friends need not to have been a member of St. Anne parish. To submit the names of family and friends who have died in the last 12 months, please call Kristina Knowles, Director of Liturgy, 409-832-9963 x120 or email kknowles@stannebmt.org.
