As we announced last weekend, Bishop Toups has appointed Father Anthony McFarland as our new parochial vicar (assistant pastor), beginning on October 18.
Fr. McFarland grew up in Beaumont, as a parishioner at St. Anthony Cathedral. After seminary studies in Dallas and Houston, he was ordained a priest of the Diocese of Beaumont in 2019.
He has served as a parochial vicar at St. Anthony Cathedral, as well as a chaplain at Monsignor Kelly Catholic High School.
We look forward to getting to know Fr. Anthony and welcoming him to our parish at St. Anne’s! Please plan on joining us for pancakes and a welcome reception for Fr. Anthony at 10:30 on Sunday, November 2, in the parish hall.

The organ-led Masses will hear a prelude this week with an interesting story.
A Tuscan Adagio was composed by Franklin Ashdown in 1999. The composer noted that the piece was inspired by his visit to the magnificent cathedral in Siena, which lies in a region of Italy known as Tuscany. The piece wants to portray the sounds of a pipe organ wafting through the reverberant space of a big church.
Ashdown was a physician by training but also a life-long organist and composer. Born in Utah in 1942, he started playing organ at his local Mormon church at age 13. His family moved to Lubbock and he attended Texas Tech University and medical school in Dallas. He was present in Parkland Memorial Hospital in November 1963 when President Kennedy arrived after the assassination.
Ashdown fulfilled his service during the Vietnam War as a doctor in Alamogordo, New Mexico where he opened his medical practice after the war. During his lifetime, he published scores of pieces for organ along with some choral works. Ashdown passed away on January 30, 2023.
